St Aloysius University students organise women’s self-defence workshop

Mangaluru: The MA Journalism & Mass Communication students of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with the Institute of Karate & Martial Arts (IKMA), organized a self-defense workshop titled ‘The Power Within’ at Samvada Youth Resource Centre, Jeppu on Sunday, March 23.

The event featured Mr. Nithin N Suvarna, Chief Trainer at IKMA, as the resource person. He highlighted that self-defence is an instinct that manifests only with confidence and the right skillset.

Accompanied by national-level karate medalists MS Ashni, Ms. Avni, and Ms. Janvi, Mr. Suvarna demonstrated various self-defence techniques, ensuring participants actively practiced the moves under expert guidance. The session provided a structured learning experience to equip attendees with practical defence skills in case of danger.

While the primary focus was on women’s safety, male participants also attended the event, learning about the importance of gender equality and respect.

The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, where participants sought clarification on effective self-defence strategies.

The event was convened by staff coordinators Mr. Wilson and Ms. Ashwini, with Mr. Kashyap serving as the student convener.
