BISWANATH CHARIALI: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a week-long programme was organized in Biswanath College by Women Cell, Biswanath College Teachers’ Unit in collaboration with IQAC, Biswanath College from March 3 to 8. The week-long programme was held under Fit India Mission as per guidelines of UGC and on the theme ‘for ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment.’
The specific theme of the programme was ‘Stronger her and Healthier future’ that covered areas like physical education, women’s health, yoga, nutrition, and mental wellbeing of women.

The programme started on March 3 with the inaugural lecture delivered by Ankur Pathak, District Sports Officer, while the welcome address was given by Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal, Biswanath College. While delivering her speech as an invited speaker, Dimpi Khanikar, Lecturer, Chatia Normal School, dwelt at length on the need for physical education and yoga for health and mental wellbeing of women.
Biplab Bhattacharya, another resource person conducted a session on food and nutrition. The inaugural session was compered by Dr Nabanita Sarmah, Secretary, Women Cell, BCTU Biswanath College, while it was chaired by Bandana Gogoi, President, Women Cell, Biswanath College Teachers’ Unit. Several sessions on meditations and yoga were conducted in which students from different departments of Biswanath College took active participation.
The week-long programme came to an end on the day of International Women’s Day on March 8 when the Women’s Cell in collaboration with IQAC, Biswanath College organized a seminar on ‘Health and Mental Wellbeing for Women’ in Bhiraon, Biswanath Chariali. The programme was compered by Dr Nabanita Sarmah, Secretary Women Cell, and presided by Bandana Gogoi, President, Women Cell, BCTU Biswanath College. The welcome speech was given by Dr Naresh Thakur, Coordinator, IQAC, Biswanath College.
As one of the resource persons, Dr Angshu Lama, Assistant Professor (NMHP), Dept of Psychiatric Nursing, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health, spoke in detail about the physical and mental problems women faced at different stages of their lives and how women could overcome them.
Dr Lama called upon the women fraternity to rise up to their problems so that they would be able to address them. Victor Jozowar, Psychiatric Social Worker (NMHP), also spoke on the occasion. The seminar was attended by the members of Biswanath Development Block, Rangdhali, Panibharal, Biswanath Chariali, and the members of the Women Cell of Biswanath College Teachers’ Unit.
